Introduction to Collaborative Discussion

How do we think better together? How does creative, culturally responsive, and critically informed discussions help us to build stronger communities? How might collaborative discussion skills help us to prepare for careers and improve workplace dynamics? How can we discuss better together to solve sticky problems?

The Introduction to Collaborative Discussion Workshop is designed to introduce key collaborative discussion concepts, skills, and mindsets. This workshop offers an overview of the Collaborative Discussion Project (CDP) Toolkit, modeling selected activities primarily but not exclusively from the Introduction Module.

By the end of this workshop, participants will have…

• Deeper understanding of key collaborative discussion concepts, skills, and mindsets
• Greater self-reflection of collaborative discussion strengths and areas for growth
• Broader appreciation for the role of collaborative discussion skills in the classroom, community, and workplace
• Greater familiarity with the Collaborative Discussion Toolkit, including: module learning goals, intentional design of toolkit activities, and additional tools (icons, clusters, reflection/practice journals, surveys, and sharing adaptations)
• Experienced a selection of expedited toolkit activities with a debriefing on how to facilitate each activity
• Awareness of how the toolkit activities have been used and various measures of impact in classrooms, communities, and workplaces
• An introduction to the Interactivity Foundation and invitation to join a community of practitioners and educators advancing collaborative intelligence
